Robert D. Mcguire

Robert D. McGuire, 74, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Twin City Hospital in Dennison, O., following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born on January 1, 1935 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Herbert George “Penny” McGuire and Bernice Irene (Gilbert) McGuire Manini.

Robert was a lifelong resident of the Twin City area, a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1952 and a member of Uhrichsville First United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed membership in the Hey Jack Sportsman’s Club, the Uhrichsville Eagles and the Dennison Eagles. He had been a member of the Uhrichsville Moose in the past.

Robert worked on the railroad for forty years, having been employed by the Norfolk and Southern Railroad, Nickel Plate Railroad, and Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad where he was working at the time of his retirement. He had also served in the 717th Railroad Battalion. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and caring for his yard and gardens.

His surviving family includes his wife, the former Sally A. Kilpatrick, to whom he was married on August 30, 1986; a daughter, Polly Clark and her husband, Gregg, of Uhrichsville; five sons, Michael McGuire and his wife, Janet, of Uhrichsville, Randy McGuire and his wife, Susan, of Oakton, Va., Timothy McGuire of Uhrichsville, Todd McGuire and his wife, Mistie, of Millfield, O. and Scott J. McGuire of Uhrichsville; and two stepdaughters, Tina Richardson of Canada and Kelly Downin and her companion, Mike Mann, of Uhrichsville.

He was also blessed with eleven grandchildren, Heather Hanna, Lindsey McGuire, Jessica McGuire, Hanna Clark, and Brytton, Kelsey, Emersynn, D’Laynee, Colleen, Erin-Grace and Brady Edward McGuire, with another expected; and five step grandchildren, Cody, Ashlee and Jordon Richardson, Erin Downin and Ariel Mann.

Robert is survived by his sisters-in-law, Joy McGuire of Dennison and Carol Svelnys and her husband, Romus, of Cleveland; his aunts, Beulah “Tommy” Reichman and Virginia McGuire of Uhrichsville; and many nieces and nephews, as well.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert D. McGuire; a brother, Carl L. McGuire, Sr.; his stepfather, Joseph E. “Chub” Manini; brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Kilpatrick; granddaughter, Christine McGuire; and step grandson, Christopher Downin.

Services for Robert, officiated by Rev. Mark Unrue, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Those wishing to honor Robert’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Cancer Society.
