Robert James Harshey

Robert J. “Bob” Harshey, Sr., 75, of Tuscarawas, O., passed away at Union Hospital in Dover, O. on Friday, April 10, 2009 while surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 24, 1933 near Uhrichsville, O., he was a son of the late James Albert and May Belle (Warner) Harshey.

Bob was a resident of Tuscarawas County for most of his life. He attended Uhrichsville Schools in his youth and attended First Assembly of God in New Philadelphia. He retired from Alsco in 1980.

On May 27, 1955, Bob married the former Paula J. Gray who survives him. They were blessed with four children, Robert J. “Bobby” Harshey, Jr. and his wife, Mary Ann, of Uhrichsville, twins, Bart Harshey and his wife, Judy, and Bret Harshey and his wife, Wendy, of New Philadelphia, and Joleen Reichman and her husband, Dale, of Gnadenhutten; eleven grandchildren, Dustin Harshey, Richie Heavilin and his wife, Karen, Rachelle Braun and her husband, Cody, Anthony Harshey and his wife, Lindsay, Nicholas Harshey and his fiancée, Ciara, Shawn Harshey and his wife, Jessica, Shane Harshey, Lacy Reichman, Clay Reichman, Matthew Laizure, and Travis Laizure and his companion Laurinda; and two great grandchildren, Dereck and Hailey Harshey with another great grandchild expected in August.

Bob is also survived by a brother, Jerry A. Harshey of New Philadelphia; a sister, Mrs. Norma Lake of Uhrichsville; numerous nieces and nephews; two best friends, Chuck and Walt Burdette; and his faithful canine companion, Tia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn Harshey and Gene R. Harshey, Sr.; and two sisters, Betty “Becky” Grezlik and Catherine Jo Smitley.

Bob was a loving family man who especially treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as watching old classic TV. He was a former member of the Uhrichsville Moose.

Services for Bob, officiated by Pastor Larry Fletcher, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, prior to the services. Those wishing to honor Bob’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
