Robert Dale Roberts

Robert “Bob” D. Roberts, 82, of Dennison passed away on Saturday April 21, 2012 at Union Hospital in Dover following a lengthy illness. Born in Newport on January 12, 1930 he was a son of the late Fred Sr. and Verna Mae (Kilpartick) Roberts.

Bob attended Uhrichsville High School before serving his country in the United States Air Force. Bob began working in construction until he later became a caretaker for the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds for 15 years until his retirement. Once retired, Bob worked for Esber Beverage. In his spare time, he loved to bet on horses and play slots at the casino. He was a director of the Muskingum Horse Association, a Boy Scout Leader, a member of the Keystone Saddle club, and a 4H advisor for 10 years. Bob’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Bob attended Newport United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school.

On January 26, 1948 Bob married Dorothy May Rennicker with whom he enjoyed over 64 years of marriage. Bob’s other surviving family includes children, Betty and her husband, William Cavanaugh, Jr., of Dennison, Bill Roberts and his wife, Jennifer of Minerva, Ron Roberts and wife, Leslie of Dover, and Linda Roberts and her companion, Dave Jones of Warsaw; brother, Fred Roberts, Jr. of Newport; sister, Marjorie Johnson of Newport; 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren with 1 expected in September; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ruth Ridenbaugh; sisters, Kay McMath, Norma Fouts, Shirley Johnson, and Betty Holmes; brothers, Walter Dean Roberts and Donald Roberts

Services for Bob, officiated by Rev. Harry Milligan will be held at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday April 24th at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Newport Cemetery near Uhrichsville. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00pm on Monday.
