Bob L. Camper, Jr.

Robert Lee Camper Jr., 79, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio, after a long, full life. He was born May 18, 1947 in Blytheville, Arkansas, a son of the late Robert Lee and Helen (née Church) Camper.

Bob spent his formative years in Bremerton, Washington and always considered it to be his home. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington and later earned his master’s degree in Audiology from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

In July of 1965, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army with whom he served two combat tours of duty in the 101st Infantry Airborne during the Vietnam War. During his last year of active duty, he volunteered for Compassionate Duty – notifying bereaved families of their soldier’s death in service to their country and escorting their remains to their final resting place – a position which he felt honored to be able to fulfill. After his honorable discharge in July of 1969, Bob spent the remainder of his career as an Audiologist in civil service which saw him serving in dozens of locations across our nation, including at Naval bases, as well as for the Indian Health Service.

On July 5, 1975, Bob married Peggy A. Blake who survives him, along with their daughter, Alice M. Camper, at their home. In his retirement, they chose to make their home in rural Tuscarawas County near Dennison where they have lived since 2007. He spent many hours in the beauty of his property whether caring for his yard or training his dogs to whom he was utterly devoted. In his younger years, Bob had also loved riding his BMW and Harley-Davidson motorcycles and had been a lifetime member of the Viet Nam Veterans Motorcycle Club. Additionally, he will be remembered for his talent for woodworking, having made many personalized items for friends, as well as creative puzzles for children. Locally, Bob was a member of the Dennison Eagles and had been a member of the American Italian Club in Dennison. He will be missed by his many friends.

According to Bob’s wishes, he will be cremated without a public visitation. He will be honored by a military committal service at the time of his cemetery interment on a future date. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Disabled American Veterans, in lieu of flowers.
