Robert R. gBobh Hairfield, 63, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, January 14, 2010.
Born February 22, 1946 in Baltimore, Md., he was a son of the late Roderick B. and Pauline (Wojek) Hairfield. Bob grew up in the East and was a graduate of Sparrows Point High School before serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he earned the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars as well as the National Defense Service Medal.
On August 21, 1971, Bob married the former Paula Coventry with whom he enjoyed over thirty-eight years of marriage. He is also survived by their daughter, Amber L. Hairfield of the home; a canine companion, Chloe, who knew him as Grandpa; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Hairfield of Altoona, Pa.; two nephews, Jeremy and David Hairfield of Altoona; a niece, ShawnteŒ Hairfield of Altoona; two great nephews, Allan and Gage of Altoona; the Coventry family; and numerous cousins.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Ken Hairfield, and stepfather, Lloyd McMullen.
Bob was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his family and friends, especially enjoying going out to eat together. He was an avid collector of classic car memorabilia who spent many happy hours going to car shows and flea markets in search of his f55, f56, and f57 Chevy items. He also liked to attend truck and tractor pulls.
Bob was employed by Twin City Hospital in their maintenance department from 1980 to 1990 and had most recently been employed by Claymont City Schools as the evening custodian at Eastport Ave. Elementary School in Uhrichsville. He was a member of Uhrichsville First United Methodist Church.
Services for Bob, officiated by Rev. John Clark and Pastor Jeff Belt, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsvillefs Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
