Robert L. Barker

Robert L. “Bob” Barker, 79, of Dennison, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Schoenbrunn Healthcare in New Philadelphia, after a long period of declining health. Born November 20, 1938 near Bowerston, he was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret; sisters, Evelyn, Marge and Virginia; and brother, Jim.

Bob was a 1958 graduate of Dennison High School. He worked for many years in the local clay industry before spending nearly 18 years at Dover Chemical until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time at Tappan Lake and was an experienced fisherman, hunter and trapper. Bob enjoyed sports and spent many years coaching PeeWee Football, Little League Baseball and Senior Division Baseball.

Bob will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, the former Virginia Willard, and their children, Michael (Shelah) Barker, Richard (Dr. Jill) Barker, and Sharon (Dallas) Cox. He was blessed by grandchildren, Lindsey Cox (Ben) Tulak, Aaron (Sunny) Cox, Alex (fiancée, Maddison) Cox, Lauren Cox, Mitchell Cox, and Ben, Halle and Nick Barker, and great-grandchildren, Leo Tulak and Arianna and Paxton Cox. Bob is also survived by siblings, Dolores (Dick) Patterson, Frank (Shirley) Barker, and June Rinker, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Bob’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dennison Presbyterian Church and the Claymont Booster Club.
