Robert Alan Aubiel, Sr.

May 12, 1950 — September 25, 2021

Robert Alan Aubiel, Sr., 71, of Dennison, entered into his Heavenly home, while surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, following a hard-fought battle with a brief illness. Born May 12, 1950 in Dennison, he was a son of the late William Sherman and B. Marie (Gotschall) Aubiel.

After his graduation from Claymont High School in 1968, Bob began his college education at Kent State University Tuscarawas which was interrupted when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He valiantly served in Vietnam as a sharpshooter (rifle), attaining the rank of Specialist 4 and earning multiple medals, including a Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. Upon returning home, he continued his education at the former Stark State Technical College, preparing him for his 44-year career in the coal mining industry. After retiring from his superintendent role in the coal mining industry, Bob most recently had been the head of maintenance for Express Packaging in New Philadelphia for the past six years. A man of deep faith, Bob attended Spiritual Temple of Praise in Norton, as well as NewPointe Community Church Dover, and previously was a member of New Philadelphia First Baptist Church. He loved being in nature, and spent many happy hours boating and tinkering around in his garage. Bob enjoyed weekend getaways with his wife, vacationing at the beach, and cheering on his Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns.

Above all else, Bob was the quintessential family man, who always made his family his first priority. He attended every event possible for his children and grandchildren. He was a proud and devoted father and grandfather. He enjoyed sharing his love of nature with his son, Bobby, and his girls, “K-Bug” and “Whit Whit.” Bob also enjoyed spending time with his son-in-law, Brian, sharing his love of building and fixing things, and teaching him all of his Mr. Fix It trades. He was so proud of Brian, Michelle, and his girls, Kailey and Whitney. He was the man everyone went to for help, and he offered it without hesitation. To know Bob was a blessing, he was truly one of the good ones. His ornery grin, giving heart, and pleasant nature will be very sadly missed.

On July 21, 1973, Bob married the love of his life, Linda Jean (Gipson) Aubiel, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Michelle (Brian) Watkins; granddaughters, Kailey Marie and Whitney Anne Watkins; brother, William Aubiel; sister- and brother-in-law, Sandy and Rev. Ron Chaffman, Jr.; sister-in-law, Kerry Aubiel; father-in-law, Carl Gipson; nephews, Craig, Justin, Oliver and Owen Chaffman, and Billy Aubiel; niece, Cynthia (Scott) McCartney; and great-nephews, Jaret, Kole and Will Aubiel; and great-nieces, Maddison and Jordan McCartney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving son, Robert Alan Aubiel, Jr.; mother-in-law, Garnet Gipson; and brother-in-law, Carl L. “Jock” Gipson.

Rev. Ron Chaffman, Jr. will officiate a 1:00 p.m. funeral on Friday, October 1, in the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow with a military committal service in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the charity of one’s choice in support of veterans.
