Robert Ray Arthurs, 68, of Port Washington, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia, following a sudden illness. Born October 15, 1946 in Dennison, he was a son of Alvin Ray Arthurs of Uhrichsville and the late Betty Arline (Schwab) Arthurs.
After his graduation from Uhrichsville High School in 1964, Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, spending 33 months in Vietnam as a member of the 224th “Crazy Cat” Battalion. Upon his return from the military, Bob worked for Alsco and Sugarcreek Window & Door before enjoying a long career in carpentry and contracting until his retirement in 2008. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, caring for his garden and rebuilding cars. He attended NewPointe Community Church.
On September 14, 1996, he married the former Brenda Jean Renner who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Shannon and Joshua Arthurs; stepdaughter, Dr. Nicole (Frank) Luther; grandson, Maxwell Luther; siblings, Jeffrey (Diane) Arthurs, Ann (David) Marino, and Karen Sue (Gary) DeMattio; mother-in-law, Diana Renner; brothers-in-law, Leo and Don Renner; his feline companion, Trouble; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pastor Mark Hunnicutt will officiate Bob’s funeral at 11am on Saturday, August 29, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8pm on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd. S.E., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
