Rita Smith

Rita Smith, 85, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away suddenly in her home on Thursday, October 9, 2008. Born July 2, 1923 in Arnoldsburg, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late Walter L. and Mary B. (Smith) Smith.

A resident of Rush Twp. near Uhrichsville for the past sixty-three years, Rita devoted her life to her family and worked hard on her farm, having been widowed for nearly forty years. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed the time she spent in her gardens and caring for her chickens. She also loved tending her flowers. She was a member of Emmaus Chapel in Tuscarawas.

Rita’s surviving family includes seven children, James C. Smith of Uhrichsville, John Smith and his wife, Patsy, of Sardis, O., Linda Goosman of New Philadelphia, Ralph Smith and his wife, Annalee, of Uhrichsville, Gary Smith and his wife, Vicky, of Newport, Brenda Taylor of Uhrichsville, and David Smith and his wife, Roxanne, of Newcomerstown; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Eula Reynolds of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Smith; a son, Larry E. Smith; two sisters, Esther Cunningham and Ethel Copen; and eight brothers, Oakie, Otha, Homer, Denver, Dale, Hayes, Basil and Walter Smith, Jr.

Services for Rita, officiated by Pastor Sam Brown, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. A private family graveside service will be held in Lima Church Cemetery at a later date.
