Richard Merrill Wright, 90, of Dennison, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville while surrounded by his loving family. Born December 15, 1922 in Columbus, Ohio, he was a son of the late Edison Jay and Emma Loree (Kilgore) Wright.
After his graduation from Columbus Senior High School in 1941, Richard proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. He then began his forty year career as an electrician and supervisor for Pennsylvania, Penn Central and Conrail Railroads, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Capitol City Lodge #656 F. & A. M. for over sixty years, and since moving to Dennison in 1965 had been a member of the Dennison Eagles where he was a past officer.
On August 21, 1943, Richard married Martha Carol (Coe) Wright who preceded him in death on March 12, 2005. They are survived by two devoted daughters, Jo Ellen (Jim) Neininger of Kent and Janet (Michael) McGuire of Uhrichsville; grandchildren, Lisa (Dayton) Parkins of Cuyahoga Falls, Brian (Dawn) Neininger of Powell, Jennifer (Barry) Chambers of Cincinnati, Michelle (Jeremy) Engel of Steubenville, and Julie (Justin) Page of Anchorage, Alaska; and great-grandchildren, Dwayne David Parkins, Janelle Lee Chambers, Macey Alexandra Chambers, Brooke Irene Neininger, and Gavin James Neininger. Richard is also survived by a sister-in-law, Wanda Wright of Columbus; niece, Darlene (Larry) Mumford of Columbus; nephew, John Lawles of West Jefferson; great-niece, Lori Bicknell of Dayton; and great-nephew, Todd Mumford of Grove City. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Robert Wright; a sister-in-law, Ruth (Richard) Brunney; and a nephew, Jerry Wright.
Services for Richard, officiated by Chaplain Jayne Byler, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside his beloved wife in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery with a military committal service. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
