Richard Lee Irvin Wineman, 93, of Smithville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025 at Sprenger Health Care Smithville Western in Wooster. Born July 5, 1932 in Dennison, Ohio, he was the last surviving child of the late Ray Eugene and Leatha V. (Lee) Wineman, having been preceded in death by his siblings, Ray (Patricia) Wineman Jr., Leatrice Wineman, Duane (Herta) Wineman, and Jeannine (Joseph) Polen.
A Twin City resident in his youth, Richard was a 1951 graduate of Dennison High School who had enjoyed playing the trombone in the Railroaders marching band. Growing up, he had attended Uhrichsville Church of the Nazarene. He went on to work for Tusco Steel in Gnadenhutten, Ohio before continuing his career at AEP in Dennison where he was employed for many years. Richard loved spending time on the Florida coast where he spent countless days enjoying the ocean and summer sun. In his free time, he adored riding his motorcycles and had a particular fondness for woodworking.
Richard will be deeply missed by his sons, Richard L. (Goddess Davis) Wineman II and Randall S. (Sally) Wineman; grandchildren, Jenni and Stacey; great-grandchildren, Cohen, Canaan, Cooper, Mya, and Jace; numerous nieces and nephews; and his longtime friend, Randy Atherton.
Services for Richard, officiated by Rev. Dennis G. Rohn, will be held at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, Ohio at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27. His family will receive callers from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions honoring Richard’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
