Richard Paul "Rick" Timko, 76, of Bailey, CO, passed away on December 12, 2023 after a 2 year illness. He was born on November 1, 1947, in Columbus, OH, to the late Francis and Elizabeth Timko. Rick is survived by his loving wife, Susan Timko, his children Tiffany Craver (Chris), Amanda Timko (Jim Edmondson), and Matt Timko, as well as his grandson Charlie Craver, granddaughter Chelsea Craver, sister Barbara Timko, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Francis, mother Elizabeth, son Dave Timko, and brother Frank Timko.
Rick wore many hats, both literally and figuratively. He was known for his versatility and adaptability in various roles throughout his life. Rick began his career as a teacher at Sherrodsville Elementary in the Conotton Valley school district, where he also served as a football coach. Following his teaching career, he worked for Conrail and later CSX railroad for 30 years until his retirement in 2008. During this time, he also successfully managed Timko Sunoco at Tappan Lake for several years. After his retirement, he moved from Dennison to Bailey, Colorado in 2015 to be close to his grandchildren and fulfill his dream of living in the Rocky Mountains.
Rick's passion for education was complemented by his love for astronomy. He had a keen interest in celestial events and always shared the next meteor shower event with his family. He also enjoyed traveling to many national parks, forests, and monuments with his family. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, camping, fixing things, attending the Indy 500 and cheering on the Buckeyes. It was during his time at The Ohio State University that Rick had the honor of playing football under the legendary coach Woody Hayes in 1966 and 1967. He was also a committed lifetime alumni association member. Rick was a devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison, Ohio, and St. Mary’s of the Rockies in Bailey, Colorado. He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith was an integral part of his life, providing him with strength and guidance.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Young and Brave Foundation in honor of Chelsea Jo Craver.
Rick Timko will be remembered for his dedication to education, his passion for astronomy, and his love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A mass will be held at St. Mary's of the Rockies at a future date. Rick will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Dennison, Ohio beside his son, Dave.
