Richard W. Goulden

Richard Wayne Goulden, 91, of West Chester, O., passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Schoenbrunn Healthcare in New Philadelphia, O., only twelve days after his beloved wife, Ferne, left this life.

Born July 18, 1918 in Washington Twp., Guernsey Co., O., he was a son of the late Arthur and Alice (Ferrell) Goulden.

Richard and Viola Ferne “Ferne” McKibben were united in marriage on September 18, 1946. They had one son, Dennis Goulden, who preceded them in death. They are survived by three grandchildren, Melanie Johnson and her husband, Jim, of Uhrichsville, Michael Goulden of Rochester, Pa., and Benjamin Goulden of Louisville, O.; three great grandchildren, Eddie and Andy Johnson of Uhrichsville and Dennis Goulden of Rochester, Pa.; and two daughters-in-law, Linda Goulden of Uhrichsville and Becky Goulden of Louisville.

Richard is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Esther Eberhart of Cadiz and Helen Wells of Freeport, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, wife and son, Richard was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Goulden, and two brothers-in-law, Sherman McKibben, Jr. and Ernie McKibben.

Richard was a lifelong resident of the area, a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1936 and a veteran of World War II, having served his country in the Army from 1942 to 1945 during which time he received two Bronze Battle Stars and the Purple Heart Medal. He retired from Heller Bros. Machine in Newcomerstown where he had been a machinist. He was also a farmer who loved caring for his family farm, working in the garage and fishing. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Services for Richard, officiated by Pastor Tom Klaserner, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow at Greenmont Cemetery in Freeport, O.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
