Richard D. Garbrandt

Richard D. Garbrandt, 78, of Gnadenhutten, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia after a brief illness. Born June 2, 1934 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Charles Henry and Vera Lucille (Camp) Garbrandt.

On September 19, 1952, Richard married the former Irene Chatt with whom he enjoyed over fifty-six years of marriage until her passing on January 1, 2009. They are survived by a daughter, Glenda (John) Conway of Uhrichsville; two sons, Richard D. Garbrandt, Jr. of Gnadenhutten and Michael (Mary) Garbrandt of Newcomerstown; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Richard is also survived by a brother, Ronnie (Sissie) Garbrandt of Texas; four sisters, Beverly (Junior) Jarvis of Tuscarawas, Patty Smith of Uhrichsville, Donna Diehl of Dover and Jean (Kenneth) Morrison of Gnadenhutten; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Roy Daniel Garbrandt; a daughter, Vera Ellen Selway; a sister, Maggie Haney; and two brothers, Junior and Bobby Garbrandt.

A lifelong resident of Tuscarawas County, Richard was a loyal employee of Superior Clay in Uhrichsville from 1950 until his retirement in 2003. He was an avid deer hunter who also enjoyed fishing and games of chance, especially enjoying his trips to the casino in Wheeling and to Newcomerstown to play Bingo. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by his family.

In keeping with Richard’s wishes, no public visitation is planned. A graveside service, officiated by Pastor John Stevenson, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13 in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery where he will be interred beside his beloved wife.
