Richard "Dick" D. Engstrom

Richard Dean “Dick” Engstrom, 80, of Freeport, Ohio, passed away at his home on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, after a sudden illness. Born Jan. 8, 1932 in Tippecanoe, Ohio, he was a son of the late Wardley McKinley and Julia Phyllis (Gordon) Engstrom.

A lifelong resident of the area, Dick spent thirty-one years as an employee at Cantex. He also was an auctioneer for thirty-four years, spending fifteen of them as the owner and operator of Dick’s Auction House. He also enjoyed working his family farm, tinkering with antique cars and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

On Feb. 21, 1952, Dick married the former Arlene B. Beckley who survives him at their home. He is also survived by a daughter, Tena (Randy) Stine of Freeport; five sons, Richard D. (Patricia) Engstrom, Jr. of Freeport, Rodney Lee (Jeannie) Engstrom of Florida, Blaine Engstrom of Mississippi, Dennis (Tina) Engstrom of Freeport and Jody (Christine) Engstrom of New Philadelphia; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Wilma Bloom of New Philadelphia; brother, Ronald W. Engstrom of Freeport; sisters-in-law, Thelma Engstrom of Magnolia and Joyce Engstrom of Tuscarawas; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Harry, William and Paul Engstrom; sisters, Rosie Ackerman, Julie Ann Engstrom and Wanda Miller; daughter-in-law, Freda Engstrom; and a grandson, Elijah Stine.

Services for Dick, officiated by Pastor James Hauser, will be held at 11am on Saturday, Feb. 11, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Freeport’s Greenmont Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5pm to 8pm on Friday, Feb. 10.
