Richard Cummings

Richard P. “Dick” Cummings, 75, of Dennison, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 following a brief illness. Born July 20, 1935, he was a son of the late W. Paul and Mary Jane (Van Lehn) Cummings. A life resident of the area, Dick graduated from Dennison High School in 1954.

Dick was never one to shy away from work, having farmed all of his life in addition to working 32 years in the oilfields, and retiring in 2010 from General Electric after 54 years. Dick had been a member of the Scio Masonic Lodge #0587, and a member of both Feed Springs Church and Park Christian Church in Dennison. Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to go fishing in West Virginia with his friend Larry Defritas and enjoyed the time he spent with his dog, Toby.

On October 21, 1953 Dick married Joann (Coventry) Cummings who survives him of their home. In addition to his wife of nearly 58 years, Dick’s other surviving family includes, a son, Rick and wife Debbie Cummings of Leesville; daughters, Tammy and husband Rich Best of Dennison and Shawn and husband Randy Cummings of Tuscarawas; five grandchildren, Travis Donato, Danielle Cummings and companion Cody Mueller, Derek and wife Rachel Cummings, Rachel and husband Tim Chilton, and Montana Best; eight great grandchildren, Katie, Trevor, Sarah, Mariah, and Tiffany Donato, Rylee and Coleton Mueller, and Ava Cummings, as well as one more great grandchild expected; brother Mike Cummings of Dennison; and many nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents.

Services for Dick, officiated by Rev. Doug Mallernee, will be held at 5:00 pm on Friday, May 20, 2011 in the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home for visitation from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Friday, May 20, 2011.
