Richard A. Bargar

June 23, 1938 — October 3, 2023

Richard Allen Bargar, 85, of Dennison, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Claymont Health and Rehabilitation in Uhrichsville. Born June 23, 1938, he was a son of the late Carl and Gladys Opal (Fenton) Bargar.

Immediately following his 1956 graduation from Uhrichsville High School, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served until the end of 1959 and was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Kretchmer. For the rest of his life, he kept in close contact with his former shipmates and enjoyed travelling to their reunions every year. Upon returning home from the service, he began his 39-year career as a machinist with the Warner & Swasey Co., continuing until his retirement from Gradall Co. in 2000. He was a life member of the Uhrichsville Elks and the Dennison AIC, and he loved spending time riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle every chance he got. He attended Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison with his wife and daughter for many years.

On June 23, 1962, Dick married the former Janet Marlene Pickens with whom he enjoyed 59 years of loving marriage until her passing on August 1, 2021. They are survived by their daughter, Sandi Albright; grandchildren, Sara Swiney, Megan Ott, and Maya Ott; and great-grandchildren, Baylee Swiney and Parklynn Martin. Dick is also survived by his sister, Norma Staley, and a large extended family including his in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by their son, Richard A. Bargar, Jr.

Father Jeff Coning will officiate a 10:00 a.m. funeral on Thursday, October 5, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. A military committal service will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison where Dick will be interred beside his beloved wife. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors.
