Rev. L. Earl Young, 82, of Barnhill, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, from Community Hospice in New Philadelphia. Born December 29, 1933 in Sparta, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Anthony McKinley Young and Amanda Lee (Driver) Young.
After attending White County Public Schools in Tennessee, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He later earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies from Lee College in Cleveland, Tennessee before beginning his nearly 30 years in ministry, during which time he served the Lord in 6 congregations. In retirement, he has been a member of Emmaus Chapel in Tuscarawas where he has been a dedicated Sunday school teacher. Rev. Young also worked for Massey-Ferguson for many years.
On April 6, 1963, he married the former Dora Ruth Rogers who survives him. He is also survived by their daughters, Linda (Edward) Burnside and Amanda (Vic) Lalli-cafini; son, David (Tammie) Young; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren with another expected. His sisters, Ruby (Bill) Hughes, Geraldine Robinson and Eunice Clickner, and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Lewis, Clayton and Alton Young; sister, Naomi Bowlin; and infant sister, Viola Young.
A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Sam Brown, will be held in Emmaus Chapel in Tuscarawas at 2pm on Saturday, July 23, 2016 with visitation for 2 hours prior to the service. He will be interred in Young Family Cemetery on Gum Spring Mountain near Sparta, Tennessee. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmaus Chapel, 221 S.
