Raymond C. Garber, 74, of Uhrichsville, passed away at Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Born March 22, 1940 in Beach City, Ohio, he was a son of the late Christian A. and Elizabeth (Miller) Garber.

Ray grew up in Oakland, Maryland before returning to our area in 1961. He had lived in his current residence near Tappan Lake since 1984. In the early 60’s, he was employed by Union Hospital before owning Ray’s Sunoco in New Philadelphia in the mid 60’s. Throughout most of his career, he was the proud owner and operator of his semi and was a driver for over 50 years, known by many as “Truckin’ Ray”. Most recently, he was employed by Wes-Con in Scio. Ray was a member of the Uhrichsville Eagles and a former member of the Uhrichsville Moose. He loved gardening and farming, and he was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed family gatherings and holidays when they could all enjoy wonderful home cooked meals together. Ray has recently been attending Grace United Methodist Church in Uhrichsville.

Ray is survived by his lifelong, loving companion, Sandy Barcus of the home; son, Tony (Laurie) Barcus of Dennison; daughter, Tracy (Mark) Rainey of Dennison; daughter-in-law, Diana Beatty of Uhrichsville; grandchildren, T.J., Taylor, Brennon, Kasey, Alexis, Tessa, Derek, Matthew, Chelsey, Morgan, Wyatt, and Tucker; great-grandchildren, Bryson, Skylar, Kaden, Mason, Madison, and McKenna; sisters, Lora (Elam) Yoder, Mary Garber, Lovina (Roy) Miller, and Clara (Ed) Miller; brothers, Eli (Lidia) Garber, Ura (Catherine) Garber, and Nelson (Edna) Garber; sisters-and brother-in-law, Katie Hochstetler, Bonnie (Larry McAtee) Steiner, Jim and Vicki Barcus, and Marcy Barcus; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Todd Barcus; sister, Fannie Garber; and brothers, Amos, William and Harvey Garber.

Services for Ray, officiated by Pastor Larry Malterer, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison.
