Phyllis McCullough, 86, of Gnadenhutten, Ohio, passed away suddenly in her home on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Born August 20, 1924 in Wainwright, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Enrico and Luigia Maria (Besozzi) Besozzi.

Phyllis was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Tuscarawas Warwick High School in the class of 1942. She was a longtime member of John Heckewelder Memorial Moravian Church in Gnadenhutten where she had been very active in the life of the congregation, serving as a Sunday School teacher and as a past officer of the Moravian Women. She was also a member of the Gnadenhutten Women’s Club and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Phyllis was employed for many years at U.S. Concrete Pipe Co., as well as at the Gnadenhutten Public Library.

On October 16, 1948, Phyllis married Joseph Willard McCullough with whom she enjoyed over forty-nine years of marriage until his passing on November 18, 1997. They are survived by a son, Michael McCullough and his wife, Judy, of Reynoldsburg; a daughter, Sharon Hannon and her husband, Robert, of Sugarcreek; three grandsons, Maj. Jonathan Hannon and his wife, Lisa Marie, of Hawaii, Capt. Jeffrey Hannon of Chapel Hill, N.C. and Christopher McCullough of Reynoldsburg; and three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Eirinn and Maille Hannon. The last of her generation, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Mauro, Reno and Catherine Besozzi, in addition to her parents and husband.

Services for Phyllis, officiated by Rev. Darrell Johnson, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 6, in John Heckewelder Memorial Moravian Church at Gnadenhutten. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
