Philip R. Stanley, 91, of Dennison passed away at Community Hospice House while surrounded by his loving family on March 4, 2016 following a brief illness. Born May 29, 1924 in Flushing, he was a son of the late Harry Roland and Lena (Bethel) Stanley.
After graduating from Flushing Schools in 1942, Philip proudly served his country in the United States Navy in WWII. Upon returning home he began his career at Republic Steel in Warren, then as a union bricklayer at Whitacre Greer, (formerly Evans Brick) and retired after 40 years of service. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grand and great grandchildren. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Philip very much enjoyed building and construction projects and this left a legacy in the community.
On May 18, 1946 he married the former Dorothy L. Chini with whom he would of celebrated 70 years of marriage in May. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughters, Lori (Dale) Burkholder and Nina (Joe) DeMonte; grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Gardner, Julie (Eric) Swartz, Philip (Sarah) Burkholder, Rollie (Jeannie) DeMonte, Jamie (Leah) DeMonte, Adam (Audrey) DeMonte and Miranda DeMonte; seven great-grandchildren with one more expected; a sister-in-law, Alma Maculaitis; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also preceded in death by siblings, Harry J. Stanley and Ann Marie Chini.
Father Tyron Tomson will celebrate a funeral mass at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison with a Christian Wake service to be held at 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice, Immaculate Conception Church and School, and Tuscarawas Central Catholic.
