Paul Edward Wardell, 84, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville, after a period of declining health.

Born January 2, 1925 in Uhrichsville, he was a son of the late William Edward and Della Grace (Heidy) Wardell.

Paul was a lifelong resident of Uhrichsville and had worked for the local clay industry at Evans Clay, as well as for Republic Steel in Massillon. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the former Midvale V.F.W. for many years. In his younger years, Paul was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in nature.

On Septemer 29, 1947, he married the former Phyllis Lola Hunt with whom he enjoyed nearly fifty-seven years of marriage until her passing on April 24, 2004. They are survived by a son, Kenneth Paul Wardell and his wife, Carol, of Dennison; a daughter, Mrs. Ron (Tillie Marie) Willis of Uhrichsville; three grandchildren, Shannon Wardell and Kenneth Michael Wardell of New Philadelphia and Kristan Willis of Uhrichsville; and two great grandchildren, Sara and Jonathon. Paul treasured the time that he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren, and dearly loved doing things as a family.

Paul is also survived by a brother, Virgil Wardell, of Massillon and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vicki; and six siblings, Eugene, Mildred, Beulah, Lester, Clarence, and Doris.

Services for Paul, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside his beloved wife in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Those wishing to honor Paul’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Disabled American Veterans.
