Paul A. Horsfall, 72, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio after a lengthy illness. Born October 7, 1939 in Fry’s Valley, Clay Twp., Tuscarawas County, Ohio, he was a son of the late Harold Horsfall, Sr. and Mary Dorothy (Kinsey) Horsfall.
A lifelong resident of the area, Paul retired in 2000 from Carpenters Local 69 after thirty-five years. He was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Old Town Valley. In his spare time, Paul was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, mushroom hunting, and fishing, having been a twenty-five year member of the Indian Valley Bass Sportsmen.
On October 21, 1990, Paul married Ruie Ann (Starkey) Horsfall who survives him at their home. He is also survived by three daughters, Becky (Dave) Brown of Bolivar, Paula (Rick) Rohrer of Navarre, and Marla (Steve) Struhar of Dover; grandchildren, Zach, Seth and Jesse Brown, Ashley and Andrea Rohrer, and Alex and Stevie Struhar; step-grandchildren, Jenn (Dave) Schrock and Matt and Amy Struhar; great grandchildren, Skyler, River and Logan; brother, Harold (Joan) Horsfall, Jr. of New Philadelphia; sisters, Sylvia Stein and Barbara Walker of New Philadelphia; sisters-in-law, Callene Peterson of Gnadenhutten and Ethel Starkey of Louisville; a number of nieces and nephews; and his beloved pets, Toot and Keee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Ronald Stein and Jack Starkey, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Salisberry.
Services for Paul, officiated by Rev. Hugh B. Berry, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 1, in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Fry’s Valley Moravian Church Cemetery near Gnadenhutten. Family and friends are invited to call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and the American Heart Association. Paul’s final act of generosity was to give the gift of sight by being an eye donor.
