Patrick Thomas Oberholzer

Sep 25, 1946 — Oct 13, 2026

Uhrichsville, Ohio

Patrick Thomas Oberholzer, 80, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, after a period of declining health. Born September 25, 1946 in Dennison, Ohio, he was a son of the late John Charles and Betty Jean (née Witting) Oberholzer.

Pat was a lifelong Twin City resident who was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison throughout his life and a 1964 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. During high school, he was an outstanding varsity football player, having been honored as an All-Ohio player. He then proudly served his country as an MP in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 before returning home to a long career in the local railroad industry. Pat spent over 30 years as a conductor and brakeman for Penn Central, Conrail, and finally, Norfolk Southern Railroads.

Pat will be missed by his many, many friends at the social clubs where he had enjoyed membership over the years – including the Uhrichsville Eagles, Uhrichsville Elks, and the Dennison American Italian Club. He will be remembered for his outgoing personality and robust sense of humor. Pat was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting in his younger years and then fishing well into his 70s. He especially treasured the times that he spent at Hen Island in Lake Erie. Pat could also be a happy homebody – enjoying the opportunity to kick back and relax in his comfy chair where he could often be heard calling out his favorite phrase, “Hey! While you’re up…”. Most of all, Pat loved being with his family whom he dearly loved.

On July 11, 1973, Pat married Sandra L. “Sandy” (née Marteny) Oberholzer who survives him at their home. He is also survived by their children, Sherry (Dan) Mata, Tammy (Robert) Loveday, and Scott (Ashley) Oberholzer; grandchildren, Kennedy (Erin) Cutlip who was like a daughter to him, Jeremy (Taylor) Mata, Rachel Mata, Arleigh Oberholzer, and Violet Oberholzer; and great-grandchildren, Lucas Jackson and Daniel Mata. His sister and brother-in-law, Shelley and Ron Morrison, sisters-in-law, Kathryn Oberholzer and Barbara Oberholzer, and many nieces and nephews complete his surviving family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Scott “Scottie” and Michael “Obie” Oberholzer.

Father Jeff Coning will celebrate the funeral Mass on Monday, October 19, at 11:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison.
