Pamela Kay Smythe, 77, of New Philadelphia, passed away with her loving husband at her side on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, following a three-year battle with cancer. Born July 26, 1946 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late John Wesley and Betty Jane (Thompson) Garner. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved canine, Jetta.
Pam grew up in Uhrichsville and was a 1964 graduate of Uhrichsville High School. She enjoyed working for the former United Bank in Uhrichsville for over 20 years, before moving to St. Petersburg, Florida in the mid-80’s. She has been a New Philadelphia resident since 2000.
On August 4, 1968, Pam married George LaPorte “Skip” Smythe, II who survives her at their home. She is also survived by two daughters, Marci (Richard) Sanford and Angela Smythe-Riker; two granddaughters, Sydney (Wyatt) Yoss and Sophia Riker; a great-grandson, Elliot Yoss; siblings, Dwight (companion, Rodney Davidson) Garner, Debbie Dillon, and Bruce (Linda) Garner; several nieces and nephews; her godmother, Bertha Bonanno; and her dearest friends, Sally Jo Rehard and Linda Cromley.
According to Pam’s wishes, she will be cremated without a public visitation. A celebration of her life is planned for a future date, and this website will be updated when details are confirmed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd. N.E., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
