Norma J. Smolak

March 15, 1926 — October 12, 2009

Norma Jean Smolak, 83, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Monday, October 12, 2009 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville.

Born March 15, 1926 in Lafferty, O., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Zefferina “Rena” (Magnani) Dalpiaz.

Norma was a resident of the Twin City area since her early childhood and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in the class of 1944. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison and its Altar Society.

On January 3, 1948 at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Millville, N.J., Norma was married to George P. Smolak who preceded her in death only two and a half months ago on July 29, 2009. They had been blessed with over sixty-one years of a loving marriage and are survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Joanne) Dudgeon of Dennison and Mrs. Tim (Rose) Stanley of Tuscarawas; a son, Christopher Smolak and his wife, Teri, of Dennison; seven grandchildren, Zane Stanley and his wife, Jen, Mrs. David (Heidi) Sloan, Drew Dudgeon and his wife, Crissy, Mrs. Garry (Deidra) Lute, Jr., Diana Dudgeon, Skyler Smolak and Sierra Smolak; and five great grandchildren, Mason, Zoe, Hayden and Quinn Stanley and Miles Dudgeon, with two more great grandchildren expected.

Norma is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Jim (Fran) Randolph of Columbus and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and George Dalpiaz, and a sister, Alma Powers.

Norma devoted her life to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who loved caring for her family. She enjoyed crocheting and reading, but her greatest joy came from the time that she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Norma was a very giving person who would do anything to help a friend, neighbor or anyone in need. She was also well known for her delicious homemade fudge and pizzelles which she shared with just about everyone she knew.

Services for Norma, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, in Immaculate Conception Church at Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison.

Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Those wishing to honor Norma’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Church’s Memorial Book Fund.
