Nelson Lee Perrine, 77, of Leesville, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 7, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. As his final illness drew to a close, he held on to be with his family to celebrate Father’s Day, his wife’s recent birthday, their wedding anniversary, and his favorite holiday, Independence Day. Born April 1, 1945 in Rochester, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Louie Perrine and Hazel Mildred (George) Perrine Shaffer.
Nelson was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Upon returning home from the service, he worked for a time at the former Scio Pottery where he met his lifelong love and future wife, Peggy. Nelson was a talented mechanic, starting during his military service, and continuing with a long career at Brightwood Motors. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.
On July 5, 1968, he married Peggy Ann (Hale) Perrine who survives him along with their daughters, Patricia (Billy Boyes) Borntrager and Nancy (John) McKean; grandchildren, Natasha (Kenny) Saksa, Brittany (Kelly Bagby) Crow, Scott Borntrager, and Courtney (Steven Gintz) Crow; and great-grandsons, Ashton, Carter, Lincoln, and Connor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister.
In keeping with Nelson’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation or service. He loved fireworks, and his family surprised him recently with a professional fireworks show to celebrate his life while he was still with them to enjoy it. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
