Neal Henderson Ruth, 78, of Freeport, O., passed away at his home while surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 8, 2011. Born September 26, 1932 in Port Washington, O., he was a son of the late Ernest and Grace (Hesten) Ruth.
A resident of Freeport for the past two years, Neal had lived in North Carolina for the previous twenty-three years and had been a resident of Alliance prior to that. He was a self-employed painting contractor by trade. Neal was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served his country in the U.S. Army in the early 50’s and was a member of the Freeport V.F.W. While living in North Carolina, he was a member of the Sheriff’s Association. He loved spending time at the beach, and above all, he loved music.
His surviving family includes his wife, Wanda LaDream (Buhite) Ruth to whom he was married on April 23, 1983; nine children, Carol (Ron) Frank of Freeport, Dian (Robert) Morgan of Dayton; Daniel (Rita) Spencer of Mountain City, Tenn., Debra Rine of Penfield, Pa., Tim Armstrong of Columbia, S. Car., Terry Armstrong of Dallas, Tx., Robin (Santo) Martinez of Phoenix, Az., Kelly (Dan) Snyder of Phoenix, Az., and Christopher Ruth of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Gerald (Sally) Ruth of Kookstown, Pa.; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and a large extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold Ruth.
In keeping with Neal’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation. A private family service is planned for the spring. Those wishing to honor Neal’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Shriner Hospitals for Children.
