N. Ruth Hughes

February 27, 1925 — September 25, 2012

N. Ruth Hughes, 87, of Uhrichsville, was taken to Heaven and into the arms of God on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from Hennis Care Centre in Dover after a long period of declining health. Born February 27, 1925 in Chester, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Francis J. and Forrest E. (McGraw) Dudgeon.

Ruth was a lifelong resident of the Twin City area, a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1943, and a former volunteer at the Dennison Depot Canteen serving troop trains during World War II. She was a manager at Harts Department Store for many years and in her retirement she enjoyed doing craftwork, reading and working puzzles. Ruth was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who especially cherished the time that she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth’s surviving family includes two daughters, Kelly (Dan) Kohler of Uhrichsville and Cindy S. Dailey of Barbersville, West Virginia; grandchildren, Dan Kohler of Uhrichsville, Emily (Dave) Cole of Scio and Corey Daley of Barbersville; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle and Dylan Hambleton and Isaac and Isabella Kohler; sisters, Ruby McCombs of Columbus and Lucille (Dick) Gilcher of Lucasville; brothers, William Howard (Nodie) Dudgeon and Carl A. (Lois) Dudgeon of Uhrichsville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harold L. Dudgeon who died in the service of his country during World War II; two sisters, Marion F. Dudgeon and Helen Voshall; and a niece, Judy Barnhard.

Services for Ruth, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Those wishing to honor Ruth’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Hennis Care Centre team in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s which will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012. Ruth’s family wish to extend their most sincere gratitude to all the staff at Hennis Care Centre’s Homestead Unit for their exceptional care during Ruth’s stay there.
