Myrtle Alice Treacle, 97, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, after a period of declining health. Myrtle was born in Uhrichsville on October 26, 1922 (although a clerical error in official records indicates she was born October 20), a daughter of the late Osborn Beal Quillen and Viola (Rankin) Quillen.
A lifelong area resident, Myrtle was a 1940 graduate of Uhrichsville High School and longtime member of Dennison Presbyterian Church. She was active in her congregation with the Presbyterian Women who provided meals for the local Rotary Club meetings for many years and had also volunteered with the Dennison Depot Museum. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who enjoyed doing crafts. She will be lovingly remembered for making each member of her large extended family custom Christmas stockings.
On October 4, 1947, Myrtle married Richard Frank Treacle with whom she enjoyed over 68 years of marriage until his passing on December 25, 2015. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Charles J. and Richard J. “Dick” Treacle; brothers, Ralph Quillen, Sr. and Gail Quillen; and sister, Norma Ruffini. She is survived by her grandson, Ryan J. Treacle, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and great-great-great-niece who loved her dearly.
In keeping with Myrtle’s wishes, she will be buried beside her beloved husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery without a public visitation. A private, family graveside service, officiated by Rev. Carolyn Behrendt, is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dennison Presbyterian Church and Community Hospice.
