Mya Renee Hanks, 22, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, while surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 12, 2003 in Dover, Ohio, she was the beloved daughter of Alisa Renee Davis with whom she had resided and Rodney Lee Hanks Jr. of Uhrichsville, Ohio.
Mya was a 2022 graduate of Claymont High School and Buckeye Career Center, where she was enrolled in the culinary arts program. In the fall of 2021, Mya was crowned Claymont’s homecoming queen. During high school she had enjoyed bowling on the varsity bowling team. After high school, she went on to attend Kent State University Tuscarawas. Mya worked as the regional general manager at the Uhrichsville Kentucky Fried Chicken for a number of years.
Mya was an extremely kind, funny, beautiful, and loving girl. She truly adored being around people and had such an infectious laugh that her joy would spread to everyone around her. Mya was also a very gifted artist. She found great enjoyment in sketching, drawing, and tinkering with arts, crafts, and flower arranging – loving all art of any kind. Ever the spiritual girl, she had a deep fascination and respect for astrology and loved to learn anything and everything about it. In her free time when she wasn’t delving into an art project, Mya loved having adventures and exploring new places and always loved to be surrounded by nature. Above all else, Mya adored her family, boyfriend, and friends. She loved spending time, having conversations, and making memories with them.
In addition to her parents, Mya is survived by her paternal grandmother, Roxanne (Robert) Johnson; uncles, Bryan Davis and Kyle (Carrie) Hanks, cousins, Aisley Davis, Casey Hanks, and Katley Lopez; her “Nana”, Lois Antonelli – along with Lois’ daughter, Ellen, and grandsons, Phillip and Jack; and her boyfriend, Blaze Gambs. Mya will also be missed by her faithful Shar Pei, Vinny. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Robert Davis and Doris Bonanno, and paternal grandfather and step grandmother, Rodney and June Hanks.
In keeping with Mya’s wishes, she will be cremated without a public viewing. A celebration of her life is planned, and this website will be updated when details are confirmed. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Southern Care Hospice, 3570 Executive Dr., Ste. 112, Uniontown, OH 44685. Mya’s family are deeply grateful for the nursing care and the administrative and logistical assistance provided by Southern Care Hospice which enabled her to spend her last days in her own home.
