Mona Odessa McPeak, 75, of Dennison, O., passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville, O., following a lengthy illness.
Born February 5, 1934 in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Sheldon H. and Viola Mae (McKinney) Colvin.
Mona was a lifelong resident of the Twin City area and a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1952. She was a longtime member of Roxford United Methodist Church where she enjoyed many years of singing alto in the church choir. She also enjoyed playing the piano and organ.
On January 24, 1953, Mona married James A. McPeak with whom she enjoyed over fifty years of marriage until his passing on October 17, 2003. They are survived by a son, Scott A. McPeak and his wife, Lori A., of Dennison; a daughter, Terri Lynn Brokaw-Poyner and her husband, Emmanuel, of Denver, Colo.; and a grandson, Jason David Brokaw of Ft. Collins, Colo.
Mona is also survived by three sisters, Phyllis (Colvin) Arnold Robinson of Canton, Barbara (Colvin) Meese of Grove City, O. and Sheila (Colvin) Stevens of Chillicothe, O., as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and a number of dear cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dean B. Colvin.
Mona was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who had also worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Co. in Uhrichsville in the early years of her marriage. She was gifted in the domestic arts, especially as an excellent seamstress who enjoyed sewing for her family and friends, and in creating beauty in her home through floral arranging and other talents.
Services for Mona will be held on Monday, February 23, at 11:00 a.m. in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in the Roxford Church Cemetery near Dennison.
Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice.
