Mildred E. Garrett

Mildred E. Garrett, 89, of Barnhill, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014. Born September 10, 1925 in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Frank Otto and Vessie Dell (Merryman) Welz.

On November 10, 1942, Mildred married Kenneth Garrett with whom she celebrated 51 years of marriage before his passing on November 19, 1993. They were blessed with four children: Kenneth D. Garrett, II who preceded her in death, Samra (Hugh) Crocker of Mississippi, Barbara (Chester) Orr of Gnadenhutten, and Vickie (Harvey) Byers of Barnhill; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Mildred is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Carme Welz and Dorothy Dyer, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her feline best friend, Fluffy. In addition to her parents, husband, and son, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Bill Crocker; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Dale Norton; and brother, Floyd Welz.

Mildred was a lifelong resident of the area who attended Uhrichsville High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church of New Philadelphia where she enjoyed going to church very much and belonged to a Life group. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who had also worked at Tusco Manufacturing in Gnadenhutten for 18 years. Mildred loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Roswell Keeping in Touch Seniors and enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting, and doing crossword puzzles.

Services for Mildred, officiated by Pastor Rich VanArsdalen, will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, December 9, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 11am to 1pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
