Michel W. Shaffer

Michel Wayne Shaffer, 69, a resident of Dover, Ohio for nearly a decade, passed away suddenly at his home of an apparent heart attack, on Thursday, December 28, 2023. He was born December 27, 1954 in Massillon, Ohio.

Before living in Dover, Michel was a longtime resident of Murraysville, West Virginia where he had a long career as a deck engineer on river barges. He was an avid fisherman and loved traveling with his beloved wife, the former Rhonda Ann Sayre, with whom he enjoyed many happy years of marriage until her passing on August 18, 2023. He was also preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Dorothy Eleanor (Braden) and Phillip Buralli.

Michel leaves behind his sister, Susan (husband, John) Fletchall; many nieces and nephews, including Tara (husband, Daniel) Nestor and children, Gracie and Austin; stepsons with whom he had been very close, Mike (wife, Debbie) Sharp and Jeff (wife, Becky) Sharp; and grandchildren, Ricky, Tony, Kelsey, and Lucas Sharp and Michael Yost.

According to Michel’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation or service. His family plan to celebrate his life privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH  44663.
