Michael Allen Shaw, 54, of New Philadelphia, O., passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Schoenbrunn Healthcare in New Philadelphia, following a lengthy illness.
Born January 22, 1954 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Roy A. “Scotchie” and Jane Ann (Green) Shaw.
Mike was a graduate of Claymont High School in the class of 1972 before furthering his education at West Liberty College, where he was a member of the football team, and at Kent State University, where he played basketball. Mike was gifted with many athletic talents, but he especially loved golf. He enjoyed playing with a variety of friends at Big Bend and Green Valley Golf Course.
On March 15, 1975, he married the former Maurya L. Bracone who survives him. They have a son, Justin Shaw and his wife, Angie, of New Philadelphia and a granddaughter, Madilyn Shaw, who was the light of her pappy’s life.
Mike is also survived by a brother, Richard D. Shaw and his wife, Linda, of Gnadenhutten; a sister, Mrs. Ronald (Sue) Reinker of Naples, Fla.; an aunt, Mrs. Tom (Ellen Lou) Edwards of Dover; his mother-in-law, Lucille M. Bracone of Dennison; three brothers-in-law, Donald McKinley of Sommerville, O., Michael Bracone and his wife, Teena, of Columbus, and Paul Bracone, Jr. of Dennison; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Larry (Paula) Wolfe of Lancaster and Mrs. Todd (Lisa) Page of Dover; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Karen A. McKinley; a niece, Aimee Reinker; and his father-in-law, Paul L. Bracone.
Mike was employed by Associated Grocers in Dennison for sixteen years, until their closing, and was a member of Teamsters Union Local #92. He then worked in sales for a number of area companies. He was a member of the Dennison Eagles and a former member of the Uhrichsville Elks who enjoyed bowling, as well.
A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, Mike loved spending time with his family. He especially loved watching his son play baseball and never missed a game throughout his high school and college years.
Services for Mike, officiated by Father Martin J. Ralko, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church at Dennison. Family and friends may call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, during which time a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Those wishing to honor Mike’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so the American Diabetes Association.
