Michael L. Risley

March 16, 1950 — May 15, 2009

Michael L. Risley, 59, of the Tappan Lake area, passed away unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack on May 15, 2009. Born March 16, 1950 at Dennison, he was a son of the late Daniel D. Risley and Emma Lou (McCue) Risley of the Tappan Lake area.

A life resident of the area, Mike was a 1968 graduate of Conotton Valley High School and attended Uhrichsville First Moravian Church. Mike retired from G.T.E. in 2000 and then went to work for Hicks roofing where he had been employed for the past 8 years. Mike was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather and great grandfather who cherished the time he spent with his family. Mike was always willing to do anything for anyone who asked. Mike loved the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. In his spare time, Mike also enjoyed trips to Wheeling Downs with his wife Paula.

On April 24, 1970, Mike married Paula E. (Zobel), and the couple recently celebrated 39 years together as husband and wife. In addition to his wife Paula and mother Emma Lou, Mike is survived by a daughter, Michelle and husband Charles Angelo of New Philadelphia; a son, Jason and wife Heather Risley of Uhrichsville; a brother, Daniel and wife Victoria Risley of Dennison; 4 grandchildren, Matthew, Jasmine, Joshua, and Sydney; a great grandson, Anthony; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Dan Risley, Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lee and Caroline McCue, and Herbert and Ruth Risley.

Through Mike’s choice to be an organ and tissue donor, he will live on in those helped by his gift. According to Mike’s wishes, he will be cremated with no public viewing to be held.

A memorial service for Mike, officiated by Rev. William Surber, will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Uhrichsville First Moravian Church. Those wishing to attend Mike’s memorial service are encouraged to dress casual and to join the family for a luncheon at the church following the service.

Memorial donations in Mike’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
