Michael L. Malterer

Michael L. Malterer, 38, of Dennison, O., died Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Aultman Hospital in Canton, O. from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Born December 3, 1971 in Baltimore, Md., he was a son of Patricia Ann (Harper) Malterer Green and Warren Eugene Malterer, II.

Michael was a resident of the local area for most of his life, having moved here in 1976. He worked for a number of area excavating businesses, including Staneart Equipment, and attended Uhrichsville First Presbyterian Church. Michael had many interests and especially enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting, canoeing, shooting and riding his motorcycles. His greatest joy came from the numerous activities and special time shared with his children whom he dearly loved and of whom he was very proud.

His surviving family includes his mother, Patricia A. Green of Dennison; father, Warren Eugene Malterer, II and his wife, Tammy, of Florida; three sons, Airman Seth M. Malterer of Eielson A.F.B., Alaska, Jordon Malterer of New Philadelphia, and Cruz Malterer of Dennison; a daughter, Michaela Malterer Oswald of Dennison; his paternal grandmother, Eleanor Malterer of Florida; and five siblings, Gail Brown and her husband, Dave, of Gnadenhutten, Bobbi Kohler and her companion, Gary Jenkins, of Dennison, Patsianne Carew and her husband, Steve, of Meridian, Idaho, Craig Malterer and his companion, Jen Morrison, of Port Washington, and Kylie Malterer of Dennison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by five step siblings, Amanda Leggett and her husband, Dennis, of Carrollton, Troy Hawkins and his wife, Kelly, of Florida, and Janet Porter, Diane Stinespring and her husband, Frank, and James W. Green, Jr. and his wife, Joy, all of Massillon; a host of friends, including two dear lifelong friends, Richard Staneart of Uhrichsville and Al Boyce of Maryland; and many other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Warren Eugene “Gene” Malterer; maternal grandparents, Roll A. and Betty R. Harper; and stepfather, James W. Green.

Family and friends are invited to a public graveside service, officiated by Rev. Mark Unrue, on Saturday, June 26, at noon in Bowerston Longview Cemetery. In keeping with Michael’s specific wishes, no viewing or calling hours will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Michael’s family to help defray the cost of his final expenses.
