Michael James Haney

Michael James Haney, age 14, of Uhrichsville, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009 at his home with his loving family by his side following a heroic battle with a brain tumor.

He was born on February 26, 1995 in Dover, Ohio. He resided with his grandparents Jim and Goldie Gatts. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Donald Zimmerman. He attended Claymont Schools until becoming bed bound 2 years ago.

Michael was a fun, loving, and adventurous child who had the sweetest smile and laugh. He mostly enjoyed playing with and teasing his cousins. He loved playing pranks on his family and friends always putting a smile on everyone's face. Michael enjoyed playing video games, riding his go-cart, watching Professional Wrestling and NFL with The Pittsburgh Steelers being his favorite team.

Michael is survived by his loving grandparents Jim and Goldie "Nana" Gatts; aunt Jennifer (Bryon) Moore; uncles, Donald (Kelly) Zimmerman, Kelsey Moore, Bryden Fisher, Breanna and Alexis Zimmerman, Emily and James Smith, Sydney and Isabella Zimmerman, Blair Butler; great-aunt Dottie (Dave) Horsfall; great-grandmother Rachel Sanders, 2 brothers Cody and Cory Haney, and a sister Melanie Kennedy.

He had an amazing staff of nurses who he spent lots of time with and who adored him, Cassie, Jessica, Tiffany, Carol, and Julie. He also had a special relationship with the Hospice nurses and therapists and the staff at Akron Children's Palliative Care.

There will be a private family service held. Michael's remains are to be cremated. No visiting hours will be observed.

The family is requesting in lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Michael's name to Hospice or Akron Children's Hospital.
