Michael Allan “Spanky” Carpenter, 61, of Dennison, died Monday, September 12, 2016, at Union Hospital in Dover, after a bravely fought battle with cancer. Born November 20, 1954 in Dennison, he was a son of June (Nign) Carpenter Curtis and the late David Carpenter.

On September 12, 1981, Spanky married the former Christine L. Whitman who survives him. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children, Russell, Carrie and Jenna Carpenter; brothers, Ron (Terri) and Dennis Carpenter; and a large extended family which includes many dear in-laws, nieces and nephews. Spanky was a lifelong resident of the area and a 28 year employee of Bowerston Shale Company. He attended Legacy Church in New Philadelphia. He will be lovingly remembered as a foster parent, as well as an active participant in 4-H. He loved camping and caring for his many animals over the years.

In keeping with his wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation. A memorial service and celebration of his life, officiated by Pastor Tommy Miller, will be held at 1pm on Sunday, September 25, in Legacy Church. Interment will be in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.
