Melvin Paul Haugh, 97, of Dennison, went happily into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, from his home, while surrounded by his loving family. Born October 15, 1923 in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Howard and Verna (Newell) Haugh. The last of 10 siblings, he was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Frank, Omar, Lillian, Esther, Doris, Dale, Dorothy, Naomi, and John.
After his 1941 graduation from Uhrichsville High School, Melvin proudly served his country in General Patton’s 3 rd Army during World War II. He retired from Tusco Grocers after many years and was a longtime Claymont school bus driver. Melvin was a member of Uhrichsville Church of the Nazarene from the age of 14. He faithfully served his Lord as a Sunday School teacher and church musician, as well as on numerous church boards over the years. Melvin also enjoyed hunting, boating, traveling, and riding his motorcycle, in his younger years. Most of all, he was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his family.
On December 18, 1945, he married the former Darlene Fae Williams with whom he celebrated 75 loving years of marriage last year. In addition to his wife, he is survived by their children, Kandie (Steve) Smith, M. Victor (Susan) Haugh, April (Joe) Berni, and Amy (Roger) Metzger; 9 grandchildren, Eric (Sarah) Smith, Tony (Robyn) Berni, Anne (Alain) Marec, Paul Smith, Angie (Kevin) Cooper, Joey (Courtney) Berni, Duke (Danielle) Haugh, Kate (Dan) Junge, and Kayla Metzger; 20 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ronald Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
Services, officiated by Pastor Michael C. Travis, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 27 at the Uhrichsville Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow with a military committal service in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the church.
