Melba Eileen Toole, 84, of Dover, O., went to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, from Union Hospital at Dover.
Born on February 23, 1925 in Scio, O., Melba was the eldest child of the late J. Glenn Cope and N. Florence (Hidey) Cope. She grew up in, and lived in, Harrison County for most of her life, moving to Dover in 1992.
After graduating from Uhrichsville High School in 1943, Melba went to work at E. D. Neikirk Co. in Cadiz, O. While working there, Melba met the man with whom she would share her life, World War II Army veteran, Lester E. Toole. They were married on May 20, 1947 and enjoyed nearly forty-five years together until his passing in December of 1991. She became a homemaker and mother to two daughters, Linda (Toole) Allen (husband, Wayne D. Allen, deceased) of Eustis, Fla. and Jane (Toole) Sloan (husband, Larry J. Sloan) of Dover, who survive her. One grandson, Jason E. Sloan of Dover survives and completes her immediate family.
Melba was a member of the East Market Street Church of Christ in Cadiz. She enjoyed reading, collecting cookbooks and recipes, and salt and pepper shakers. For several years, she was a member of the Stumptown Steam Threshers Ladies’ Auxiliary, The Tuscarawas Valley Pioneer and Power Association Women’s Auxiliary, and the Brushyfork Homemakers Club.
Melba has two sisters surviving her, Eleanor Hubble of Deersville, O. and Sharon Price of Flushing, O. One brother, Howard Cope, is deceased.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, June 21, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, O. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Lester Nabb officiating. Burial will be in Patterson Cemetery at Deersville, O.
