Matthew Jay Grant, 68, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away at his home while surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, July 3, 2026, after a prolonged illness. Born in Dennison, Ohio on October 26, 1957, he was a son of the late Charles Gabriel and Helen Lucille (née Norris) Grant.
Matt was a lifelong Twin City resident and a 1976 graduate of Claymont High School. In his younger years, he worked at Cottrell’s Gas Station, as well as for the local railroad industry. He was then employed by Stocker Concrete for a number of years before spending many years with his family business, Grant Brothers Concrete & Excavating. His final career was in the maintenance department of Claymont City Schools until his retirement in 2022.
An avid marksman, Matt was a member of the N.R.A. and Tusco Rifle Club where he loved to spend time on the shooting ranges with his friends. He had also been a member of the Uhrichsville Moose, Dennison Eagles, and Uhrichsville Elks. Another of his favorite pastimes was restoring old vehicles, including a Jeep Willys that he acquired from the Dennison Fire Department.
On November 17, 2000, Matt married Michele R. (née Arn) Grant who survives him at their home. He is also survived by four children, Makayla (Richard “Ricky” Martinelli, Jr.) Grant, Reanna (John) Phillips, Stasha (Dean Little) Misko, and Ashley (Amanda Stewart) Misko; grandchildren, Mariah (Andrew), Rysten, Paisley, Brynn, Westlyn, Ellie, Klara, Odin, Lincoln, and Kora; great-grandchildren, Howard and Hudson (who is expected); siblings, Melissa A. Grant, Terry R. (Shari) Grant, and Jeffrey (Joyce) Grant; brother-in-law, Ronald Krantz; many nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Rose Marie Arn; caregiver, Margaret Affolter; and good friends, Jeff McCray, Ed Abbuhl, Jamie and Susie Richardson, and Ronnie Carman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pam Krantz, and father-in-law, Richard Arn.
Pastor Tom Cunningham will officiate a 1:00 p.m. funeral on Wednesday, July 8, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison where his family will receive callers from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the service. He will be interred in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery in Gnadenhutten. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Interim Healthcare Hospice, 450 N. 3rd St., Coshocton, OH 43812 and the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum, P. O. Box 11, Dennison, OH 44621, in lieu of flowers.
