Marye Virginia “Meme” Grant, 91, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2013 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia after a period of declining health. Born August 7, 1921 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Willis and Nelle E. (Herron) Dyson.
Marye was a lifelong resident of the area who attended Dennison High School in her youth and was a longtime member of Park Christian Church in Dennison. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for a number of area businesses and had been a buyer for Montgomery Ward. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed supporting her great-niece’s and great-nephews’ efforts in their sporting events. Marye also spent many happy hours with her close circle of loving friends who met daily at McDonalds.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Hooker Patterson of Rutherfordton, N. Car.; grandchildren, Randy (Karen) Patterson, Beth Patterson and Kim (Chris) Alderson; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Chloe and Gavin Patterson and Catie and Sarah Beth Turner; nieces and nephew, Terriann (Nick) Cummings of Dennison, Donnie “Red” Huston of Dennison and Kathy (Paul) Gabel of Florida; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She will also be sadly missed by her dear, lifelong friend, June Klaserner; a special neigbor, Dee Menefee; and her many friends at Jaycee Villa where Marye’s life was enriched by the caring, supporting network of neighbors.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, George L. “Sluggo” Hooker; son-in-law, Gene Patterson; brothers, Richard and Bob Dyson; sisters, Lois “Toad” Greenfield and Jean Huston; nephew, Bobby Dyson; and niece, Sandy Cox.
In accordance with Marye’s wishes, she has been cremated without a public visitation. A memorial service and celebration of her life, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held at noon on Friday, May 31, in Park Christian Church. A luncheon will be held at the church following services. Her family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Pastor Caley for his friendship and excellent ministerial care to her and to Dr. Jose Martinez for his medical expertise and compassion.
