Mary Elizabeth Troppman

Mary Elizabeth Troppman, 88, of Pittsburgh, Pa., recently of Woodstock, Ga., went to be with the Lord from the Reformed Presbyterian Home in Pittsburgh on Monday, September 17, 2012. Born June 3, 1924 in Ingram, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Henry Joseph and Vesta Marie (Dick) Huhn.

A resident of the Bowerston, Ohio area in her youth, Mary was a graduate of Bowerston High School in the class of 1942. She furthered her education at the University of Pittsburgh and resided in Pittsburgh from 1942 to 1973. On June 1, 1946, she married William J. Troppman, Sr. in Crafton, Pa., enjoying over fifty-six years of marriage with him until his passing on September 19, 2003. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who devoted her life to her family.

Mary was passionate for her Christian faith and, in particular, the work of worldwide Christian missions. She grew up in the First United Methodist Church of Bowerston and was a member of a variety of congregations throughout her life as she lived in different areas of the country, serving in a variety of capacities as church librarian, lay teacher and Bible study leader. Most recently, she had been a member of North Atlanta Bible Chapel for nearly twenty years in the 80’s and 90’s. She was also a member of the National Association of Evangelicals for many years. Her gift for hospitality was shared with missionaries from around the world as she opened her home to countless travelers who had come to share their witness to her home congregations. She was also involved in ministries to fellow Christians within the Seneca Indian Nation while living in Salamanca, N.Y. from 1978 to 1984.

Mary will be deeply missed by her surviving family which includes two daughters, Ellen L. (Mark) Meadows of Glenshaw, Pa. and Margaret A. (Travis) Collins of Cumming, Ga.; a son, William J. (Karen) Troppman, Jr. of Chester, Pa.; grandchildren, Jeremy T. (Alice) Collins, Autumn M. (Larry) Acker, Laura E. (Jason) Naile, Amy M. (Nick) Caine, Mark Troppman and Anita (William) Warren; great-grandchildren, Nathanael, Bethany, Jonathan and Rose; sister-in-law, Ellen P. Troppman of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and a number of nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Her son, William J. Troppman, Jr., will officiate her graveside service on Friday, September 21, at 1:00 p.m. in Longview Cemetery in Bowerston, Ohio where she will be interred beside her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to RZIM Ministries, 4725 Peachtree Corners Circle, Suite 25, Norcross, GA 30092 which is a global ministry that seeks to communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.
