Mary A. Sarpolis, 90, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Union Hospital in Dover, O., following a brief illness. Born in Akron, O. on March 10, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Veronica (Gluzak) Presinski.
On June 19, 1949, she married Anthony “Tony” Sarpolis who preceded her in death on September 29, 1972. From the time of their marriage, they made the Twin City area their home and were members of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison.
Mary and Tony were blessed with a daughter, Mrs. Norman E. (Kathleen M.) Swaney of Uhrichsville; four grandsons, Brian A. Swaney and his wife, Heidi, of Gnadenhutten, Eric T. Swaney and his wife, Wendy, of Winston-Salem, N. Car., Chad A. Swaney of Tuscarawas and Matt D. Swaney of Uhrichsville; and six great grandchildren, Kylie N. Hanni and Kelsie L., Cassidy R., Chance A., Brendan K. and Anthony J. “A.J.” Swaney.
Mary is also survived by five siblings, Michael Preston and his wife, Fran, of Wisconsin, Celia Kupris of Akron, Pete Preston and his wife, Maryann, of Florida, Mrs. Harold (Mildred) Poole of Akron, and John Preston and his wife, Tillie, of Akron, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Phil Preston.
Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who loved caring for her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the light of her life. In her younger years, she had also babysat for a number of area families. Her other favorite pastime was going to Bingo.
Services for Mary, officiated by Father Martin J. Ralko, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow beside her husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison.
Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22, during which time a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Hospice of Tuscarawas County.
