Mary Opal Parrish, 81, of Uhrichsville, passed away at her home, while surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, December 23, 2017. Born January 27, 1936 in Newport, she was a daughter of the late Obediah Ralph and Nellie Frances (Orr) Mahaffey.
Mary was a lifelong Twin City resident and longtime member of Bethel Worship Center in Uhrichsville. For 25 years, she was a cook at Rod’s Donut Shop and had previously cooked for Miller’s Restaurant. She enjoyed bowling in 4 leagues, carrying a good average, and was inducted into the Alpa Lanes Women’s Hall of Fame. She also enjoyed softball and was an excellent pitcher.
On September 12, 1956, she married Alonzo Wilburson Parrish who survives her at their home. She is also survived by their children, Kathy (George) Striker, Karla Morrison, Kelly Vincent and Kaye (Don) Greenwalt; daughter-in-law, Brenda Parrish; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren with 3 more expected. Mary’s siblings, Marjorie Tharp, James “Jimmy Dick” (Mary) Mahaffey, Kaye (Frank) Page, Tom Mahaffey, and Ronald Mahaffey, and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Alonzo Parrish, Jr. and Kyle “Jim” Parrish; a sister, Dorothy Williams; and a grandson.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation. A private, family service is planned. Interment will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice and Bethel Worship Center.
