Mary Elizabeth Kimmel Hamilton

Mary Elizabeth Kimmel Hamilton, 95, of Dennison, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016 at her home. Born January 13, 1921 in Jewett, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Royal Rupert and Anna Pearl (Chalfant) Kimmel.

On November 12, 1949, she married Theodore Warren Hamilton with whom she enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage until his passing on April 20, 1999. They are survived by six children, Karen (John) Bolitho, Roy (Debra) Hamilton, Thomas (Donna) Hamilton, Dale (Susan) Hamilton, Mary Anne (John) White, and Carole (John) Rice; 10 grandchildren, David Jr., Matthew and Jason Carpenter, Nathan Hamilton, Christopher McCullough, Ted and Casey Hamilton, Michael and Daniel Slutz, and John Rice, Jr.; and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Carolyn Kimmel, and many nieces and nephews. The last of her generation, she was preceded in death by 6 siblings, as well as her parents, husband, and granddaughter, Freda Katelin Hamilton.

A resident of the area for most of her life, Mary was the salutatorian of Jewett High School’s class of 1939. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was also proud to work as a bank teller at First National Bank of Jewett for many years. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Tuscarawas where she was active in their Sunday School and had been the pianist. Mary, along with her husband, was a dedicated member of the Grange, having served as a treasurer, secretary and past Master. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing crosswords and puzzles, and like to watch Jeopardy.

Services, officiated by Rev. A. Wallace Anderson, will be held at 1pm on Thursday, December 22, in St. James Lutheran Church in Tuscarawas. Interment will follow in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery beside the church. Family and friends are invited to call at the church from 11am to 1pm on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
