Mary Kay Capell, 85, of Tappan Lake, passed away at her home on Sunday, October 12, 2014 after a period of declining health. Born January 4, 1929 in Uniontown, PA, she was a daughter of the late Harold S. and Mary Margaret (Reynolds) Maust.

After graduating from North Union High School in 1946, Mary Kay furthered her education at the Duffs Business School, graduating in 1947, which prepared her for her long career as an administrative assistant for Crestline Public Schools. She also worked for Shelby, Galion and Howard County Public Schools. She was always active in her community serving in many capacities which included being a Welcome Wagon Hostess in Crestline, a former member of the Crestline Eastern Star. She also volunteered for many charitable organizations such as Hospice, and supported PETA, the Humane Society, and the Wildlife Federation. She was a devoted pet owner who loved her cats and especially loved her dogs.

In addition to her parents, Mary Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Capell; and a son, David B. Capell. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Roger) Eaglin of Delaware, OH; sons, James (Sharon) Capell of Clarksville, MD and Robert Capell of Tappan Lake; grandchildren: Jay, Bobby and Kristie Capell, and Amy Sapp; great grandchildren, Daniel and Bella Capell; and cousins Anne L. Fessenden and Martha Hilton.

In keeping with Mary Kay’s wishes, she has been cremated without a public visitation. A memorial service and celebration of her life, officiated by Pastor Milo Baker, will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison with visitation for an hour leading up to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrison County Humane Society.
