Mary E. Hunt

Mary Eileen Hunt, 91, of Bowerston, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton. Born January 3, 1924 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Linton Allen and Freda Viola (Barrett) Chalfant.

A 1941 graduate of Dennison High School, Mary was a volunteer at the Dennison Depot Canteen during World War II. She also worked at the Uhrichsville 5 & 10 store and Baker’s Drug Store, as well as for Goodyear Aircraft. On October 26, 1947, she married C. Glenn Hunt, beginning over 55 years of loving marriage. He preceded her in death on February 10, 2003. Mary and Glenn made their home in Bowerston where Mary was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and their quilters, the Bowerston Women’s Club, and the church bowling league. She was a democratic precinct committee person and a founding member of the Conotton Valley Medical Foundation.

Mary is survived by four children, Jeff (Marty) Coleman-Hunt, Keith (Su) Hunt, Rebecca Hunt, and Melinda (Jimmy) Brew; daughter-in-law, Ann Crock-Hunt; six grandchildren, Joey and Sidney Geist, Erika, Sam and Simon Hunt, and Rachel Coleman-Hunt; 5 great-grandchildren, William, Riley, Lily, Sarya, and Xian ; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Hunt; brother, Linton “Chick” Chalfant; and sister, Betty Jean Novak-Waddell.

A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Tom Dawson, will be held at 2pm on Thursday, December 3, 2015 in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Visitation will be for two hours prior to her service. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Bowerston.
