Mary Ann Guy, 59, of Dennison, O., passed away on Monday, July 6, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, O., following a sudden illness.
Born December 12, 1949 in Canton, she was a daughter of Ruth (Hearn) Douds-Russell of Pasadena, Tx. and the late James Douds.
Mary Ann grew up in Bayard, O. where she was a member of Calvary Prayer Chapel. In that very church, at the age of thirteen, she met the love of her life and best friend, John W. Guy, to whom she was married on July 14, 1967. For forty-six years, John and Mary Ann spent their life together, loving to ride motorcycles and traveling all over the country, truly making the most of life. All who knew her, loved her vivacious personality and great sense of humor.
Since 1970, Mary Ann and John made their home in Dennison. They have one son, Benjamin Bradley “Brad” Guy and his wife, Christina Jo (Abel) of Carrollton, and two grandchildren, Mackenzie Renee and Ashton Thomas Guy, also of Carrollton, who were her pride and joy. Mary Ann loved playing with her grandchildren and their frequent outings to the park were a highlight of her life, as well as theirs.
Mary Ann is also survived by her brothers, Thomas J. Hearn and his wife, Sharon, of Livingston, Tx. and Terry Russell of Pasadena, Tx., as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, she had worked for a number of area businesses over the years including Mako’s Market where she had worked in the deli, Morris Drycleaners, L&N Clothing, Chek’s Tax Service, Picture Me Studio and Tubs ‘n Suds. She also helped many people learn to read when she volunteered with the adult literacy classes at Claymont High School.
Mary Ann was an active woman of many interests, including doing crafts. She was a member of the Dennison Eagles Ladies’ Auxiliary where she held office, the Uhrichsville Eagles, Elks and Moose, and the Order of Eastern Star. She will be sadly missed not only by her beloved family, but by a host of friends, neighbors, co-workers and all who knew her.
Services for Mary Ann, officiated by Rev. Jim McConnell, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, during which time, at 7:30 p.m., an Eagles Auxiliary memorial service will be held. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Humane Society.
